David was the first born son of the late David and Nell (Johnson) Cox. He was born June 23, 1947 at Gans, OK. David graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 1965 and he married "the love of his life" Barbara Tackett on September 17, 1965 in Fort Gibson. David served in the 5th Infantry, 12th Calvary Division of the Vietnam War. He had earned a bachelors degree in college and was a retired press operator at Acme Engineering. He also retired from the Fort Gibson Volunteer Fire Department after serving 20 years. David was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Gibson. He loved teaching the Men's Sunday School Class. David was the official Santa Clause for the First United Methodist Church in Fort Gibson and played Santa Claus for the Fort Gibson Nursing Homes well as for the Town of Fort Gibson and family and friends. David's biggest blessing was his grandchildren, they lit up his life. David loved all people and was loved by all. He will be remembered and missed always. David was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Mike Cox. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cox of the home, son; Christopher Cox of Fort Gibson, daughter, Lacretia Cox Lee of Fort Gibson, three brothers; Terry and Darlene Cox of Okay, Randy and Madlyn Cox of Chouteau, Bruce and Sheryl Cox of Fort Gibson, sister, Verna and John Young of Hannah, seven grandchildren, two brothers-in-law; Darwin and Murl Tackett, Rickie and Peggy Tackett and his mother-in-law; Bessie Tackett Raley all of Fort Gibson, eight aunts and a special cousin, Bill Hayes. Funeral services for David will be held at 10:00 Thursday September 3, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson with Reverend Danny Dandara and Reverend Roger Shaw officiating. Pallbearers will be Danny Whitworth, Larry Dale Cooper, John Young, Randy Vandiver, Rickie Tackett and Bill Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Cox and Cody Lee. Military honors and burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Fort Gibson.
