William T. Peterson
"Motor Daddy"

called Plt. Sgt. William Peterson to invite him to the Reunion. His wife told me he passed away two years ago. Sgt. Pete was the troop motor sergeant during '69 to '70. Even though we had our ups and downs, he was a good man, a good soldier, and he did his job well. Another trooper lost to Fiddler's Green. Please, call troopers and personally invite them to the Reunion. Forgive the cliche', but your call can make a difference.  Jim C. (7-7-2004)

Jim, it's a damned shame that Peterson has passed on to Fiddler's Green.  Quite a character, clear in my memory.  Some of us talked about him at the last reunion.  Thank you for tracking him, I guess some news is better than not knowing at all what has happened to him.  Still, sad news to hear.  God bless his cantankerous soul - and I really am sorry 30 sunk in the Cua Viet overnight.  I guess he knows for sure now. i think i told y'all before about the battles between motor daddy & me. i fondly recall him saying that i had all the mechanical ability of a chimp. it would have been good to see him again, alas, we were too late!  damn, the stuff i used to do to my track, inadvertently, of course. F'xample, I've never seen a "quick disconnect" hose before and I was playing with it, only i forgot to "quick-connect" it back.as a result the engine seized about 1/2 day into the mission....worse, the disconnected hose was sitting atop some kind of wheel/circular saw contraption in the engine that cut through it...should've seen motor daddy's face when he saw that.
