Services for Wendell Frederick Smith Sr., 58, of San Jose, Calif., and formerly of Temple will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Branford/Dawson Funeral Home in Temple.

Burial will be in Temple Garden of Memories.

He died Monday, Dec. 17, in Palo Alto, Calif.

He was born in Tallahassee, Fla., to Eddie and Abneather Smith. He graduated from Florida A&M University High School in Tallahassee. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His military awards and honors include the National Defense Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars; combat infantry badge; and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He married Diane. He worked for the Coca-Cola Company in Temple for eight years. He moved to San Jose, Calif., where he worked for 27 years in the maintenance department of Evergreen school district.

Survivors are his wife, Diane Smith of San Jose; two sons, Wendell F. Smith Jr. of Tallahassee and Andre Dewayne Smith of San Jose; two sisters, Jennie Collett of Tallahassee and Verdell Johnson of Modesto, Calif.; one brother, Eugene Smith; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. with a wake from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
